Call for Interdisciplinary Research Clusters
Hosted by the Federmann Center for the Study of Rationality
Semesters Aleph or Bet, 2025-2026 Academic Year
The Federmann Center for the Study of Rationality invites applications for interdisciplinary research clusters to be hosted by the Center for one semester of the 2025-2026 Academic Year. A research cluster should consist of three to six faculty spanning at least two disciplines working on a topic related to the Center’s interests (broadly interpreted). Most of the cluster members should be HUJI faculty, but it is possible to include faculty from other Israeli universities. Preference will be given to proposed research clusters where at least one member has a connection to the Center.
The intention is to incubate deeply interdisciplinary research interactions in a pleasant, collaborative environment. The members of a research cluster will commit to spend one fixed day of the week throughout the semester together at the Center. The Center will provide coffee and cookies and lunch for the cluster on their meeting day each week, and cluster members will be given access to (shared) Center offices and a conference room for their meeting day each week. Each cluster is invited to include up to ten students/postdocs; typically, these will be students of the cluster members. Students/postdocs affiliated with a cluster will be given access to shared student office space at the Center on their meeting day each week.
Each research cluster commits to submit a two-page report on their activities by the date of their last meeting, to host one seminar/panel/event at the Center that will be open to the public during their semester, and to submit a one-page update one year after their visit concludes.
Depending on the applications we receive, we may issue another call before semester bet.
Application is via a short Google form. In addition, each faculty belonging to the proposed cluster must send an email to Keren Goldberg (kerengoldb@savion.huji.ac.il) by the application deadline stating:
“I am available and commit to spend the full work day each {select: Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday} at the Center for the Study of Rationality (on the Givat Ram campus) from {fill in: dates of the relevant semester}, if my research cluster on {fill in: topic} is selected. I will not have teaching or other recurring commitments on that day of the week.”
Deadline to apply: September 8, 2025, with responses given shortly thereafter
