Title:
A Country Surrounded by Enemies: Iran’s geopolitical doctrines
Abstract:
This talk will examine Iran’s policies, both domestically and internationally, as stemming from rational anxieties. We will discuss the controversial aspects of Iran’s mechanisms from internal and external perspectives, and contextualize them by anchoring them in modern Iranian history.
Short Bio:
Lior Sternfeld is Associate Professor of History and Jewish Studies at Penn State University. He is the author of Between Iran and Zion: Jewish Histories of Twentieth Century Iran (Stanford University Press, 2018), and the co-author of Jews of Iran: A Photographic Chronicle (Penn State University Press, 2022). Among other appointments, he was the 2023 Templeton Fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, and currently serves as the Associate Editor of the Palestine/Israel Review.
