The human brain and body in times of stress

Abstract: 

How do the human body and brain respond to a stressful event such as an earthquake or a terrorist attack? What are the immediate effects? Are there longer-term impacts? What are the effects of living under a continuous state of stress? And can trauma literally be passed on through the generations?
